Characters Welcome, Nehemiah

Hey everyone. We have been on a really great series in our weekend worship experience called “Characters Welcome” I personally dug in deeply during the 2 messages on Nehemiah. I love to preach about vision. It is one of my favorite topics besides worship, dont get me started! Wow, what an incredible man of vision and real commitment. Nothing in life ever comes easy. I believe this is especially true when we are called by God to build something for him. Nehemiah was called by God to build again the walls of the city of Jerusalem. They had been laid waste by the babylonians. He faced many challenges upon accepting this task. The fact that he traveled several months across the wilderness to the toasted remains of his once hometown Jerusalem, with thousands of people in tow is just amazing. Not to mention that he completely rebuilt the walls of the city in 52 days and the whole time he was building he was battling! He faced the challenges of people around him being complacent and not really interested in rebuilding…but Nehemiam built and battled! He faced the attack of people on the inside of his circle and enemies from without, but the whole time he never stopped! He did not allow peoples opinions to hinder Gods dream that was burning in his soul! He just kept on building and battling. He didnt stop…He was focused and consumed with the vision! I am excited because God has given us a task to build a city, “Healing Place Church” in the middle of Bolingbrook. I believe that if we will keep to the task then God will help us as we build and battle. It is going to happen!

Connect Group, Servanthood

What a great time we had at connect group this past thursday evening. It seemed that everyone was very eager to talk and share. The presence of God was so powerful among us. Thanks to Cindy for a great spread of food. Tacos, yummy! We continued in our discussion on what it means to be a servant of God. Since We have begun our `08 summer of Servolution its a great time to discuss this thought. We are not called to serve, but rather to be servants. sounds the same…but its not. To be a servant means that we are completely at the disposal and use of our master. It means that we belong to Him. This digs in a little deep, but when we commit our live to Jesus Christ we are saying, “Jesus be Lord of my life.” You take control. Mark 10:43 says, “Whosoever wants to be great must become a servant.” Jesus measures greatness interms of of service, not status. God determines greatness by how we serve him in worship, and how we serve others in ministry. I was very moved by the discussion from the great people in this group. At the very center of this discussion is the true desire to have a servants heart. This is produced and formed in us as we become more like our lord Jesus Christ. If you want to talk about a “servant” that is a real servant! Real servants are not self-serving. They pay attention to the needs of their families, their church family, and their neighbors around them. In that order…What an awesome and amazing responsibility!
